BaBeaver - Code Shell hunter - Part 02

Photobucket Here goes the second part of BaBeaver - Code Shell Hunter. Following my previous post, I thought about it and decided to go for a little behind the scenes kind of series of posts, one bit at a time. Today: the creation of BaBeaver. BaBeaver was created in early 2004 when I was freelancing for a company based in HK. They asked me to come up with a pair of animals, which would both not be very common in comics book ( like cats, dogs and mice ). So I proposed several options, emphasizing on a beaver and a snail. They wanted to market it strongly on the fact that it was created by a French ( your truly! ). If you go to the website, in the products they have made of it, you can clearly see that the dialogues are in French. Now, regarding the name of BaBeaver, originally, he was supposed to be much much younger, a baby ( he even had diapers at some point in the development! ) and so, here comes the name: baby + beaver = BaBeaver. For his little snail friend, for a long time, I just wanted to call him "snail". The character was there from the beginning but I considered more like a supporting character than a main one. And then, he grew on me. And I can say that I prefer him to BaBeaver. And to the point that in that story published here, he is very important. The name of "Allo"... not from me! They contacted me between the time I completed the development of the characters and starting the comic strips gig and mentioned to me that they decided to call him that way because it sounded French! I was a little bit surprised, but hey... this is their license! So, that's how BaBeaver and Allo were born, somewhere in Hong Kong, a little bit over a 2 months time period. Now, jump to the bottom of the post and enjoy the second part ( actually the second week worth of strips ! ). See you next post!

). A bientôt, au prochain billet.

BaBeaver - Code Shell Hunter - Part 01

Photobucket A couple of years ago, I created this character, BaBeaver, and his snail friend, Allo for a Hong Kong based company. They asked me at that time to do a daily strip to run in the Metro Newspaper. So every Saturdays and Sundays, I would work on it, 5 pages at a time from scratch, doing the script and the drawing and sending the files to the company. Overthere, there was someone to do the coloring and if there was some time left they would do the modifications I would request ( not all the time! ). it was a "fun exercice"!
And here is the first part of one story. More to come in coming posts.

Be proud to be Chinese... Soyez fiers d'être chinois...

Photobucket It was everywhere in China and Chinese provinces. Monday, 2:28 PM, one week after the earthquake. My thoughts are with you, guys.

It is all about soccer... C'est tout sur du foot...

Photobucket The first 2 are some animations testing GIFS I have made recently for work using Photoshop and then Image Ready. My boss was kind enough to let me put them here (Thank you Alan!). Thanksfully, I didn't need to be on model... and man, that's a long time I haven't made some stuff like that!
The other 2 are me playing with Thomas, the son of a friend (Christian) and Eric, another Frenchman. This was this week-end, during the birthday party of Clémence (daughter of Christian) in Ma On Shan.

I won !... J'ai gagné !

Photobucket

Photobucket At laaaaaaaaaast !... I won ! More than a year ago, during my business trip to visit Pixar in the USA, I bought that extremely addictive game " Luxor ". It is very simple and yet, very complicated. Anyway, several weeks ago - and after a year on it during my lunch breaks - I succeeded to make it up to the end of the game... but I forgot to do a screen capture as a souvenir! So I decided to start over, even if I had to take another year for it ! i guess I am becoming better at it! Today I succeeded again ! I think it is time for me to put the game to rest and to move on! But YEAH ME !

Photobucket Enfiiiiiiin !

Blast from the past... le choc du passé...

Photobucket

Photobucket Argh. Wingo - that I thought up to now to be a good friend - just released this old photo of me circa 1995. He sent this to all my colleagues at the office! And of course, I will have to expect the usual suffering for the days to come such as... "how come you are so ugly now when you were so handsome before?" or the other blackmails that I know some people will try to do!
Not that I am that kind of person to be offended so easily, but I now hesitate on the most painful way of eternal suffering for him. Any advise welcome!

Photobucket Noooooooon !

The old lady and the pigeons... La vieille dame et les pigeons...

Photobucket A long time ago, I did this illustration as part of a weekly challenge for a website I visit not as often as I should! I even started to have a color version of it, but didn't finish it yet! ( I have a couple of thing I need to finish first! ). I don't remember I posted it on here, so... here it is! The theme was " anachronism". And for some reasons I cannot explain, I strarted to think of an animated short cartoon by Sylvain Chomet, "The old lady and the pigeons".Weird.

Bizarre.

Finally... Enfin !

Photobucket

Photobucket I have a gilty pleasure, you know, one of those stuff better not tell anyone... Well, I am going to say it to you: I follow a comicstrip series for which I am not really the target: it is for teenage girls. This is "LUANN":

A family comicstrip series centered on a teenage girl. To tell you about it will take me way too long, so just google or wiki it! And in this strip, the moment I have been waiting for a long time finally arrived: Brad ( Luann's brother ) finally kisses the girl he loves!

Man, I am so happy it happens!

And...er... OK, this is just between me and...er... you! ( should not be too much people, considering the number of people visiting this blog! )

Writer: it is a real job!... Ecrivain, c'est un vrai métier!

Photobucket

Photobucket I was sick and went to see a doctor. I was waiting for my turn and then, there was this guy coming in... Well, I guess to be a writer is a real job after all, according to what is written on the back of his uniform ! Sorry for the photo quality. It was a very quick shot with my mobile phone!
